Do I Have Insomnia?

The truth about making money from home

While cinema and even literature have over-dramatized the idea of insomnia over the years, many people just plain want to know: Do I have insomnia myself? Because of the heavy-handed influence of art on people's perceptions, many believe that insomnia is some sort of terrible sickness or disease. Insomnia, however, is actually not a sickness or disease at all - it is simply a symptom or sign of other diseases.

Insomnia, put as plainly as possible, is when someone has difficulty falling asleep or remaining asleep. Of course, insomnia can vary greatly in severity, ranging from being a minor nuisance to preventing sleep altogether; this is important to keep in mind when deciding whether or not you would like to seek medical attention. For instance, you might have a hard time falling asleep sometimes, but if you are able to sleep soundly once sleep finds you, it might not be worth the time, effort, and hassle of a visit to the doctor. It might be something as simple as stress or uptightness that is causing this delay of sleep, or "light insomnia." The insomnia will go away once you solve the stress itself.

On the other hand, you might be dealing with a severe case of insomnia, where you have a hard time sleeping through the night (or are completely unable to sleep) even when your body is tired and totally sleep-deprived. If this is the case for you, where you cannot sleep through the night, or cannot fall asleep at all, even when you are sleep-deprived, consider seeking medical assistance.

The body's mind and muscles are the areas most likely to be in disarray when insomnia is a present symptom. Medication is another common cause of insomnia.

If you have insomnia, it can be kept at bay with any number of prescribed drugs; or, you can remove the insomnia entirely by curing the disorder that is causing the insomnia. If you are suffering from a severe case of insomnia, visit a medical doctor - they can help you find out the disease causing this insomnia, and in this way they can help you solve the problem.
