The bottom resevoir allows the perfect amount of water to be obtained by the plants and soil.  You just need to make sure to fill it up every couple of days.

Some plants that really work well with the Earthbox are tomatoes. Tomato plants are a hot weather plant, so this box is ideal for them. You can usually fit two tomato plants in a box. Plan on having to support the tomato plants because they will grow very large because they have ideal growing conditions with this box.

Melons, squash, and cucumber also all work very well in the Earthbox. Plan on making lots of room for these vining plants. If you are lacking room you could consider making a trellis system to let the vines grow up. You will need to support melons and squash if you use a trellis though.
